This survey was conducted in response to a Secretary of Defense Directive requiring a standardized and voluntary survey for survivors be developed and regularly administered to 'provide the sexual assault victim/survivor the opportunity to assess and provide feedback on their experiences with SAPR victim assistance, the military health system, the military justice process, and other areas of support' (Secretary of Defense, 2014). The Defense Research, Surveys, and Statistics Center (RSSC) within the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC; DMDC-RSSC) was tasked with this effort. The SES was developed as an ongoing survey to provide details related to the sexual assault survivor's overall reporting process and reporting experience and address areas that were of specific interest to the Department, including: awareness of SAPR resources and reporting options, use of and satisfaction with SAPR personnel (including Sexual Assault Response Coordinators SARCs), Uniformed Victims' Advocates/Victims' Advocates (UVAs/VAs), and legal personnel, use of and satisfaction with SAPR-related medical and mental health services, and leadership response to sexual assault reports.

This report presents findings from the 2015 QuickCompass of Sexual Assault Prevention and Response-Related Responders (2015 QSAPR) conducted by the Defense Research, Surveys, and Statistics Center (RSSC) within the Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC). This survey was conducted at the request of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office (SAPRO) as part of its ongoing evaluation efforts of Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) programs towards sexual assault prevention and survivor support. The survey was designed to provide insights about SAPR responders-Sexual Assault Response Coordinators (SARCs) and Victims Advocates (VAs)-at military installations worldwide, to understand how effectively responders are trained for their positions, and their perceptions of how well their program is supported and executed.

The roles of the mental health professional in child abuse and neglect identification, treatment, and prevention are delineated. Specifically, the manual focuses on why mental health professionals should be involved in the child protection system, how to recognize child abuse and neglect, steps to take when reporting suspected child abuse and neglect, and mental health professionals' involvement in the diagnostic and treatment planning process. Furthermore, it examines the mental health practitioners' role in the treatment of child abuse and neglect, the mental health practitioners' involvement in the court process, and the mental health professionals' participation in community coordination. Finally, the manual addresses prevention of child abuse and neglect as a function of both the mental health facility and the individual practitioner. This is one in a series of manuals based on the Draft Federal Standards for Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention and Treatment Programs and Projects. The appendices contain standards applicable to the role of the mental health professional and a sample qualified service organization agreement. A bibliography is also provided.
